Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a Pilot?
From a medieval town in Belgium, Lieven Delamper talks to us about his life in the sky as Senior Training Captain on the Citation Latitude and why every flight is special.
How many hours have you flown over your career and how did you start?
Working as a pilot has been my dream. I’ve flown a total of 7,950 hours and I started my career as an Industrial Engineer before training to be a Pilot in the US. I was there for 2 years and took my first flight from Bridgeport, Texas before I became an instructor; a fantastic opportunity to share my experience with other pilots chasing the same dream.
What aircraft do you currently fly and what it is like?
I am currently a Senior Training Captain on the newest aircraft to the NetJets fleet which is of course the Citation Latitude, C680A. It is a great aircraft and I love the technology on board in the flight deck as it is centred around the Garmin G5000. Every Owner I have flown on the Latitude always smiles when they see the aircraft for the first time and everyone is amazed of how quiet it is. My wife once told me, you only have one chance to make a first impression, and the Latitude certainly doesn’t disappoint!
Biggest career highlight with NetJets?
I was privileged to have been on the delivery flight of the first Citation Latitude that joined the European fleet. Myself and the Citation Chief Pilot of Textron Aviation flew the Latitude from Goosebay, Canada to Prestwick, Scotland. I was also on the first team to fly the aircraft from Caiscais, Portugal to Nice, France. It has been a steep learning curve but I enjoyed every minute.
What’s the best part of being a pilot with NetJets?
The importance of Safety, the support we receive from our operational center and excellent work/home balance.
Lastly, What is your favourite destination?
Innsbruck in Austria. I love to go here with my wife and children, it is a beautiful place. I love the mountains, I enjoy every minute of it! I always go the extra mile… an extra climb or seeing one more waterfall exhausting my kids and wife! Fun is always guaranteed. Everyone must visit Innsbruck.
